McLean Museum & Art Gallery - Artist in Residence Project 2007/2008

Outcomes of the Residency

  1. A number of digital photo-creative montages will be created as representations of the artist’s interpretation of selected collections within the Museum. A number of different media will be used determined by the artist’s interpretation of the objects within the collection.
  2. AV presentations will be created representing the artist’s interpretation of selected collections within the Museum. These will be created in different formats to ensure a wide audience both within and out-with the Museum. It is anticipated that this will assist the Museum in its aspirations to publicise their collections to a wider audience.
  3. A public exhibition of all artwork created during the residency will be held at the Museum after the residency is completed.
  4. A website containing an on-line gallery of the artwork created during the residency will be created. The website will describe the residency, the procedures involved, and provide a journal of the progress made and challenges encountered.

Objectives of the Residency

The residency at the Museum will give me the opportunity to respond to and work with the Museums collections. I hope that working with the Museum objects will inspire pieces of digital art that provide a critical link in the chain that connects the historic with the contemporary and the traditional with the innovative. I also hope that my digital interpretations of the museum collections will enable access to some of the objects that are not easily displayed as well as presenting those already on display in a format that attracts a wider and perhaps younger audience.

The photo-creative montage is a single image formed from parts of numerous photographs composed and blended together seamlessly to create a new image that reflects my interpretation of the theme that inspired the work. The final image is a visual expression of thoughts and ideas both real and imaginary that is intended to delve into the subject and resonate with the viewer by inspiring contemplation, stimulating interpretation, and evoking emotion

My work continues to involve the investigation of innovative digital art techniques in the creation of captivating images. I am currently building on previous work in examining the use of audio-visual (AV) software as a mechanism to display multiple layered images in a considered and thought provoking way and in this respect AV is somewhat related to the photo-creative montage process.
