I am now in the final stages of preparing the statement works for printing. This involves creating the wrap around which will be visible on the sides of the canvas. It is possible to have just a plain colour on the sides which compliments the main work on the front of the canvas but I prefer continuing the image round the side using the background elements in the montage. As there is plenty of wall space to display the works in the Watt Hall the sides of the canvases will be easily seen and I feel this will add interest to the pieces.

Expanding the image to cover the sides is an exacting process but as I did it for the trial canvas (Millyra and the Cockerel’s Tale) at the beginning of the year I have managed to do it fairly easily this time round.

I have today sent off the first four statement works to Fresh Pixel Design for printing onto canvas. As previously mentioned I have been very impressed with their printing and so I am confident the montages will look their best. These four canvases are to be printed at a large size and so will be delivered directly to the Museum for storage until the exhibition. I am really looking forward to seeing them but by the time the order is processed it will probably be into the New Year.

Today I received an e-mail from David Penprase whose work I mentioned previously. He had discovered my on-line journal by accident and had taken a wee look at my work which he said he enjoyed. I hope to meet up with him on my next visit to Porthleven but, anyway, it was a lovely surprise to get his e-mail. It is always nice to hear from fellow artists and even more so from a fellow photographer producing such unique and complex images.

This week starts my social calendar on the run up to Christmas and I have three festive functions to attend this week. All three will be with different groups of art related friends. I find it quite interesting how my social life has changed as well as my work-life since I left behind my original occupation as a pharmacist.

Yesterday saw the end of the Christmas Exhibition at the McLean and I was delighted to learn that I had sold two of my pieces. I hope this is a good omen for my solo exhibition in March/April. Each of the artists participating in the exhibition was invited to submit three pieces and also to donate part of their sales to a charity of their choice. I chose the Royal National Institute for the Blind as this charity was of tremendous help to my mother when she unfortunately lost her sight in later life. It will not be a large donation but every little helps!

I will not be adding to my journal until after the the Christmas and New Year break so can I wish all visitors a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a healthy, happy, and successful New Year.
