I have not had time to catch up on my journal this month as I have been very busy making test prints of all the completed works. Printing is not my favourite occupation but needs must as this is the only way to reveal any discrepancies in the artwork. I am doing test prints well in advance of the exhibition so that there will be no changes during the final preparations

I have decided to make an application for a Show Scotland grant. Show Scotland is an annual “big events weekend” when selected Scottish museums and galleries host a variety of specially created activities which are different from those normally found at that venue. The event is co-ordinated by Museums and Galleries Scotland and will next take place over the Scottish Bank Holiday weekend Friday 1 to Monday 4 May 2009.

In our application I proposed the creation of a series of montages aimed at children. These will form the basis of several specially devised “Trading Card” games which will involve the children discovering the Museum Collections. The games will be launched on the Show Scotland week-end.

We expected to hear the result of our application for a Show Scotland grant today but have been informed that there has been a delay. Still, good news would be worth waiting on, so fingers crossed!

Great news - I heard today that our application for the Show Scotland grant has been successful. The timing is perfect as it falls after my residency exhibition and so I will have plenty time to prepare!

To-day I received an e-mail from the curator saying that the four statement canvas prints had arrived safely at the Museum. She could not resist having a peek at one of them and is delighted. I shall pop into the Museum on my way back from the TAIT meeting on Monday and unwrap the other three. I am really looking forward to it!

I am delighted to report that the four canvas prints are exactly what I had hoped for. My printer “Fresh Pixel Design” have come up trumps again and the colour rendition and quality of the canvases and stretchers is excellent. All the staff at the Museum have now had a “preview” and all agree that the works do indeed have the wow factor that we were all hoping for. I do hope the rest of the works turn out as well as these.

Yesterday while I was in at the Museum I picked up the print version of the latest Glasgow Galleries Guide which lists the exhibitions running from January to February 2009. There is also an on-line version of the guide. I see the Timewinds Exhibition features in the McLean section so it is all beginning to come together now!

The curator and I met to discuss details of both the Exhibition and the Show Scotland Event. The latter was just a preliminary discussion however we are now getting down to the detail of the exhibition. We covered arrangements such as the final number and size of the artworks and have decided that the preview, which will be opened by a celebrity from the art world, will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 21 March.

This morning I had an interesting meeting with Ros Gallacher who is a musician and we agreed to enter into a joint project. Ros is going to compose a piece of music and set it to my audio-visual Genesis. This takes my audio-visual work in a new direction and into what is, for me, totally uncharted territory and it is therefore a particularly exciting and unexpected development.
