The final decision has been made on canvas sizes for the exhibition pieces. The sizes are bigger than I had first anticipated and hopefully will give an extra wow factor to the exhibition. The decision to exhibit on stretched canvas has meant some extra work in preparing oversized images that will wrap around the edges of the stretcher. However it has not taken too long and I am sure it will be worth the extra effort as the wrap-arounds finish off the works nicely.
Last night was a social night when I met up with some artist friends for dinner. As might be expected there was much talk about all our latest projects and also discussion about taking forward an innovative and exciting project which will be a collaboration crossing several art genres – all will be revealed in due course!!
You may recall that back at the start of the residency I met up with the artist Ronald Forbes who was undertaking a residency at the Scottish Crop Research Institute in Dundee. The works from his residency will form an exhibition entitled “De Rerum Natura:The Nature of Things” that runs from 16th February – 8th May 2009 in the Hannah Maclure Centre, University of Abertay, Dundee. Hopefully I will get a chance to visit Dundee and view what I am sure will be an excellent show.
I am pleased to announce that the “Timewinds” exhibition will be opened by the internationally renowned stained glass artist, Alec Galloway. I am delighted that Alec has agreed to open the exhibition as he has always been very supportive of my work in the past.
Last night I visited Kilmacolm Camera club and made my usual presentation which was well received. Kilmacolm is a small camera club and I have to say is my preferred size of club as everything is much cosier. My friend Dougie Hendry is secretary of the club and he invited me to make this presentation some time ago. So there was also an opportunity for a catch up with him! I was also delighted to learn that one of the other members had seen my work at a previous exhibition and was very interested in the Digital Recollections project.
This morning I was interviewed by Claire Young of the Greenock Telegraph who is writing a feature about the Timewinds Exhibition for the newspaper. I have been fortunate enough to have had similar features about my work in the paper before and so this time I was more prepared and had my crib sheet with me. All went well and it was quite a relaxed experience. The photographs to accompany the text will be taken when the canvasses arrive at the museum.
The canvas prints arrived at the Museum yesterday and I went there this morning to un-pack them. The unpacking seemed to take ages and the amount of packing material was incredible however I am delighted with them. They have turned out just as I had hoped. I can relax a bit now as that is all the major works for the exhibition ready and waiting to go!
