My work on the audio visual continues. I have decided to produce a short prototype AV as I have found it is very time-consuming to try out ideas using the actual images from the museum collections. These images take a long time to work up and this makes it difficult to quickly try own new concepts in the AV.

The prototype audio-visual is based on some of my images that I already have worked up and using these means that I can try out AV techniques more quickly. If I find they do not deliver the effect I am looking for then I have not wasted too much time. I have selected images that are fantasy related to ensure that the prototype AV is similar in concept to the “real” AV which will be based on the Museum collections.

This prototype approach is proving very useful and I have incorporated some of the background images from the pages on this web-site. I am even managing to build a suitable atmosphere into the prototype and have selected background music for it. It is now almost complete and I am ready to incorporate some of the AV techniques from the prototype into the residency AV which is based on the Bubastis Stone as detailed before in my journal.

Yesterday evening saw the launch of the Inverclyde Arts Strategy at a well attended and most enjoyable event held at The McLean Museum. The Arts Strategy document details the objectives for the development of the arts in Inverclyde for the next five years. It has been created through the combined efforts of The Arts for Inverclyde Board and The Arts Implementation Team (TAIT) over the past few months.

The event consisted of a number of presentations on the strategy itself led by the Arts Development Officer Catriona Henderson and one on the building of the new Greenock Arts Centre. The presentations gave an exciting glimpse of the developments to come in the Arts in Inverclyde over the next few years. The consensus opinion of the audience seemed to be “Can’t wait”!

The launch also hosted a number of performances by young musicians and singers from local schools and along with the buffet they made it a particularly enjoyable evening for the audience.

On a personal note it also gave me the opportunity to try out my prototype audio visual on a live audience. It was well received and I got a lot of encouraging feedback so I am now looking forward even more to progressing the residency AV.

Inverclyde Media reporters attended the event and interviewed some of the participants. They have put the interviews on their website so you can listen to my interview on the creation of the audio-visual or more details of the Art Strategy from Catriona Henderson

Finally, the launch event was my last engagement before leaving on holiday so I am now looking forward to three weeks in St Ives in Cornwall. Although I am planning lots of relax time on the beach I will also be taking in the arts and crafts activities which St Ives and the surrounding area is renowned for.
